Hi,

I have got a very strange issue at my pc:

- the system crashes without any reason
- it happens during booting or after doing nothing for a while
(like sleeping mode)
- it happens completely accidental, there is no way to reproduce it
- screen switched off (no graphical signal)
- reset, keyboard, even cd-rom open has no effect - but PC still runs

system:
- board: Enmic 8TEX+
- os: Windows 2000 Pro, SP4, Build: 1495
- processor: AMD 2000+
- ram: 512 MB
- graphics card: Radeon 9000

the follwing reasons can be excluded:
- graphics card (tried with another)
- RAM (tried with another)
- CPU-Temperature (is low)
- external devices (tried without any)
- Power Management (BIOS- and OS- Power Management is switched off)

....seem like a software problem, because it only crashes after
starting Win2000, under my second OS Win98 there is no crash.

Does anyone has a clue what the reason could be or what I still should
try?

Thanks a lot!

One thing you could try is isolating the problem by removing all but
absolutely necessary internal devices (drives, cards, etc) to see if
this eliminates the problem. If it does, then restore those devices one
at a time until the problem reappears.

I assume you have the system set to display the blue screen at crash.
That screen may hold a clue at the very top, if there's a driver problem.

If the problem is with the power supply, the machine may simply go out
instantly. There will be no clues in any logs; it's equivalent to
unplugging the box. Power supplies can fail intermittently for a while
before they fail completely.

The same can be the case with a failing motherboard, or a motherboard
that is shorting against the chassis beneath it.

Loose or defective cabling can be the problem as well. PCs all vibrate
slightly.
