system configuration

In an attempt to both eliminate an error message upon
startup and to speed up my labtop I went into MSCONFIG and
turned of some programs at start up. Now I can't restore
my computer to its original settings. I have no sound and
and no access to various programs. I have tried running
the system restore but there was no restore points. I am
need of help BADLY. So if anyone can give me a hand I
would appreciate it GREATLY. With school started and I
need to run programs requiring sound, I need help ASAP.
Thanks a ton

What happens if you go back into MSCONFIG and turn those items back on
again?

What are some of the specific items that you turned off in MSCONFIG?
That may help us to identify the underlying cause of your problems.

Note: If it was startup services rather than startup programs that
you removed then should try using Start - Run - SERVICES.MSC and
change the startup setting for the services you disabled to
"automatic".

For information about services and how to safely reconfigure them see

Good luck

-Brian: If you are using Windows XP, did you create the
system recovery discs? If you did, try running those to
correct the problem. If you do not have them, you might
ask around and see if any of your friends could loan them
to you.

Another approach would be to use Start - All Programs - Accessories -
System Tools - System Restore. Choose the most recent restore point
that is prior to the date and time when you made the changes to
MSCONFIG.

Good luck
