I am trying to get QuickTime to stop loading automatically and running in
the background on Task Bar when the PC is turned on. There is nothing in
the program that I see to do this, so I've used RUN/msconfig to stop it.

However, now there is "System Configuration Utility" (SCU) window that pops
up saying,

"You have used the SCU to make changes to the way Windows starts. The SCU is
currently in Diagnostic or Selective Startup mode, causing this message to
be displayed and the utility to run every time Windows starts. Choose the
Normal Startup mode on the General tab to start Windows normally and undo
the changes you made using the SCU."

That is confusing -- what should I do?

Check the box that reads, loosely, "do not show this again"

You might also click START|RUN and type "msconfig" (no quotes) <enter>.
Click the Start Up tab and see if there is a QTTASK item. Check its box.

OK -- thanks all.

You should have an option down the bottom to "not display this message" and
you can put a check mark in it. However some mail programs like Incredimail
require the Quicktime plugin to be active at startup in order to run. If you
uncheck the Quicktime you will have to download the plugin every time you
use incredimail and then this puts it back in your msconfig\startup. It
would perhaps be better if you simply let it initiate at startup but go into
the quicktime configurations and uncheck the "show icon in tray" option. If
on the other hand you don't need it at all and would like to remove it from
the msconfig\startup tab allowing you to then start in normal mode
go>start\run and type in regedit and then click ok . Now follow this route
by clicking the + symbol beside the entries in this order.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\SharedTools\MSConfig\StartupFolder or
the StartupReg. Click either the + for StartupReg or StartupFolder to expand
them and then right click on any entry you don't want in the
msconfig\startup tab and delete it. Welcome to the eXPeriance. :~)
