1.1 ghz system running win98se with 128 meg sdram. Clock keeps losing
about two hours a day until rebooted. Would this be the CMOS battery,
or could there be something else to check?

Mine was jumping ahead two hours.

I unchecked auto sync to internet time server and then it went away.

Where's that setting?

I see you are using WIN98se . I cant remember if its the same or not
so it might not be relevant. You click the time in status/tool bar at
the bottom of WIN. Under one of the dialog boxes you see an option
which you can check and uncheck.

1:If it loses time whilst the system is off then replace the Cmos
Battery but write down all your BIOS settings(See Manual)
download manual from mother board maker's site/support.

If it loses time whilst you are using it it's a sign of a program
causing it and some anti-virus programs have known bugs causing this
so change anti-virus program.I've had no problems with this freebie
superb and one of the best anti-virus programs.

you can sync the time online with this,
http://www.worldtimeserver.com/atomic-clock/
and some startup programs that are not needed can cause it so click
here as well,

The battery only comes into play when the computer is off. When the
computer is off there is a real time clock that depends on the batery. When
you boot up the computer, the computer will read the time off that clock .
It will then keep time using an internal program and not look at the real
time clock again tuil you turn off the cmputer and turn it back on. Look
for some application you are running that is messing up your time. If the
computer looses time while it is off, then it is time to replace the
battery. The battery powered clock will loose time when the computer is off
and soon it will not hold the cmos memory.

Just took a look at that, and it seems to mention only Outlook.
Is it tied to such ugly Microsoft products? (which are not
allowed on my machinery - W98 is enough

I've used this superb free product for well over 3 years and have
installed it on loads of systems(Win9x/ME/XP) and never a problem.
It is a great AVP.

Yes, I got around that URL problem, but am wondering will it try
to bring such things as IE and OE to life on my machine. I use
Netscape, sometimes FTP or wget. Since I don't permit javascript
or image downloading etc. I have very few problems.
