About every 3rd or 4th time I power up my system, I find the system
clock running anywhere from 5% - 15% faster than real time.

Sometimes it takes a cold restart to bring it back to normal.
Sometimes the clock spontaneously slows back down.

If this is some sort of malware, it's something that NAV, ZoneAlarm
4.5 and Spybot all have missed.

Windows XP Pro, BTW.

What should I be looking at here?? thanks

Let me guess, this is a Dell, right?

I don't think there would be any fix for this, you'd just have to replace
the motherboard. If it's under warranty take it back.

1:If it loses time whilst the system is off then replace the Cmos
Battery but write down all your BIOS settings(See Manual)
download manual from mother board maker's site/support.

If it loses time whilst you are using it it's a sign of a program
causing it and some anti-virus programs have known bugs causing this
so change anti-virus program.I've had no problems with this freebie
superb and one of the best anti-virus programs.
