I have Outlook 2007 at work and every so often I see a folder called system
cleanup that automatically puts my outgoing emails, calendar and task items
in that folder. How do I get rid of that or at least be able to set the time
frame. Right now it appears to be approximately a month.
Thank you

Did you ask those that take of your corporate e-mail system if they have a
process that runs server side that does this? The reason that I ask is that
there are solutions that run on the Microsoft Exchange server that do
archival and maintenance on the database.

No I never thought of that. So you are saying this is not an automatic
function of Outlook, it is done because of corporate?

I'm saying that it could be based on your description of the issue and yes,
it isn't a client side thing. This is strictly something the corporate gods
have decided needs to be done/run on Exchange server side for message
retention, archival, and discovery (read legal) purposes. You will have
absolutely no control over this process.

However, lets say I'm wrong for a minute. Outlook does include a client
side archive feature. I ruled this out by your description of the issue
because the folder name it uses by default is *not* "system cleanup". The
feature does use/create a PST file on your system and if I'm not mistaken,
it doesn't go away at the end of the process. If you wanted to see if the
client side auto-archive feature is on in Outlook or how it is configured,
just open Outlook and select Tools | Options | Other tab | AutoArchive
button.
