Hi,

I have recently installed Win 2K with the latest sp (3 and
4) on a P4 industrial computer system.

I need to run a additional PCI card on this system.
It is a Framegrabbercard from ELTEC (germany) - PC_EYE1+.
However, after I put that card in, Win 2k keeps rebooting
by itself after the loging screen. (I haven't got chance
to install the drivers yet!)

I have written an e-mail to the card's h/w manufacturer,
and they mention as follows:

"The PC-Eye1 or PC-Eye1+ Framegrabber you are using is
rather old. It uses a NCR875 or even a NCR825 SCSI-
controller for PCI-transfers, which has difficulties with
newer mainboards.

Nearly all of the newer mainboards use versatile PCI-
bridges which can manage more than one PCI bus. In many
cases, the on-board devices (like ethernet, sound ...)
share the PCI bus 0 and additional cards plugged into the
free PCI slots are assigned to PCI bus 1 or higher. In
other cases, there is one PCI slot assigned to PCI bus 0
and the others are assigned to bus 1 or higher.

However, our grabber isn't able to run on PCI busses
higher than bus 0, and that's why there is a rather high
probability that you won't be able to run the grabber at
all with your system."

I have tried updating the motherboard BIOS but still gets
the same results.

Is there an patch to overcome this for Win2K?

Pls help. Thank you!!

Can also reply me @ (e-mail address removed)
your help is very much appreciated!! ^_^ /

It looks like the manu. is telling you you cannot. If there was a patch I'm
sure they'd know about it

This is a hardware problem not a software problem. The only thing you
could do is install this card in an older computer that is compatible
with the card, as the manufacturer mentioned.
