I have Windows Vista and have been trying to add a new HP printer. When I
put the printer cd into computer it starts loading, then stops and tells me
that I can not add the printer because I am not the system administrator. I
am the only user and I never put in a password. I have just checked the
system and I am the administrator... any ideas?

Does the printer documentation say that the CD includes Vista drivers? If
not, have you tried the HP support site for Vista drivers and tried
installing those?

If the CD does contain Vista drivers, what happens if you browse the CD
contents, find the startup executable, and right-click on that file and
select "Run As Administrator"?

Even though you are the administrator, there are still times you need to
elevate your super powers.
Try opening Computer, go to the CD drive, right-click on the program
Setup.exe, and select "Run as Administrator"

Hello,

additionally, you could try starting the Setup exe file by right-clicking it, and choosing "Run as administrator".

Greetings,
