Hi,

I switched on my Acer laptop and this message appears on a black screen:

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

You can attempt to repair this file by starting windows setup using the
original setup CD-ROM.
Select 'r' at the first creen to start repair.

I do not have a CD-ROM to repair this as the laptop came with windows
installed already. I cannot get onto windows at all.

Any help woould be greatfully appreciated.
Thanks

Hi Fasty,

You have a corrupt Registry. Unless you want to do a re-install, you
have a bit of work to do. Here are the instructions. Strongly suggest
you print them off before trying anything. It's important you follow
them to the letter.

You'll either need to obtain a WinXP installation CD, or follow the
manufacturer's instructions for wiping everything off the hard drive and
restoring the computer to its original, ex-factory state.
