There is one major difference between these 2 HAL types
Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) PC
ACPI PIC
This HAL utilizes a PIC chipset
ACPI Uniprocessor
ACPI APIC UP
This HAL utilizes a APIC chipset.
APIC supports more interupts and is more common in the newer machines.
