I've always relayed on Windows' Sytem Restore when everything else has
failed. So I'm quite alarmed now using Vista Ultimate to discover that it
does not work anymore. Now, I have to machines: a desktop and a laptop, both
running Vista. The first time I tried a system restore on the desktop it
failed (there was a message at the end of the long restore process saying
so, and the problem I was trying to solve remained). I read a solution (or a
work-around) somewhere that made it work: starting system restore from
safe-mode. That worked, although it made me re-install several applications,
something I never experienced with XP. Yesterday I ran into trouble with a
program I've been using for a long time this time on the laptop. After not
being able to solve it I tried the SR. You guessed: failed! But this time
not even the safe-mode made it work. Now that's a 100% failure rate for me
(on two separate hardwares).

Has anybody else had the same problem? Solution?

Thanks

Why would an article devoted to *setting* a System Restore Point help OP
Restore the system to a former Point? Are you suggesting that the SR storage
is corrupt and needs to be rebuilt before it will work again, losing all
stored Points in the process?

If you Restore to a date before the applications were originally installed,
you lose them.
It was that way in XP as well.
That is the way System Restore is supposed to work.

And, if you are using Norton, it causes probs with SR.
