I got infected by a HIJACK/REDIRECT trojan and I thought
I got it pretty well cleaned up. Ever since then
however, anytime I restart XP, I get a notice window that
states "sys32dll.exe has encountered a problem and has to
close" with all the relevant apologies, etc. Is this a
side effect of the trojan, and it's not really
irradicated from my machine, or is the file simply
corrupted and needs to be refreshed/replaced? Any
suggestions would be most welcome, including where to
find the file (online, XP CD, etc.) Thanks in advance...

Steve,

At the taskbar, click Start|Run. Type 'Regedit' and press Return. The
registry editor opens.

Locate the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE entry:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
Run = <System>\Sys32.dll.vbs

and delete it if it exists.

Rich,
Thanks for the info. Before I edit the Registry,
can you tell me why the key exists, and if it
autorefreshes with the next loadup of XP? Just wondering
what the file does and how the problem originated.
Thanks for your time.
