Syntax s648 Mother Board

I was putting together a machine with a friend of mine.
We inadvertanly ordred a "syntax" brand MoBo. (I thought
for sure we had ordered an Asus MoBo, but the order form
showed otherwise). Anyway thats beside the point now.

The system was put together and I had it up and running
on winXP home. Everything seemed good at first, but then
some serious issues arose.

1) The system spontaneously reboots (even with the
default windows reboot on failure shut off)

2) It has a very hard time getting all the way through a
start up without locking.

3) Sometimes instead of rebooting as mentioned above it
will simply "hard lock"

4) While trying to diagnose the issues I found that the
system thinks it has 2 CPUs installed (it has 1 3.01Ghz
p4). In the device manager it list 2 processors under the
processor menu. I tried removing one, and then both. (I
did this in regular and safe-mode). On the following
reboot it would again show 2 processors.

5) The MoBo is running off drivers that are dated 7/1/01.
I am wondering if this is part of the reason. The
manufacturers web site offers little to know help and
does not repond to emails. We will try calling them
tomorrow but I doubt they will be of much help.

Any help with these issues is appreciated. Is it the MoBo
or could it be bad memory? Is there some wacky XP glitch
that could be causing it?

PS: I have peiced together systems before and never had
trobule like this

Youre best bet is to go to the mfg of the mb web site
and upgrade the BIOS,then enter BIOS on restarting
computer,exit page,select,load set-up defaults,then save
changes and exit BIOS.This alone could solve the current
problem(s).P4 with hyperthreading shows as 2 processors,
also head to intel for chip-set update. If the BIOS up-
date doesnt exist, you can boot to xp cd,recovery, press
enter for password,type:bootcfg /? for info,youll prob-
ably want to type and run:bootcfg /rebuild

The mfg web site does have a bios upgrade. Any tips on a
safe and succesful bios flashing would help here (nothing
makes me more nervous than flashing the bios). My
understanding from the past is that I need to have a
program to run and also the flash file itself. Then I put
those on a disk and boot to the disk (can this also be
done with a writable cd?). Where is a good place to get
the flash application I need?

ONLY USE A BIOS THAT IS SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED FOR YOUR
MOBO!!!!! If you try to use a bios from another mobo, you
will destroy the mobo, and have to get a new one. You
said device manager shows up 2 cpu's? Thats cos ur P4 cpu
uses HT (Hyperthreading). Processors with HT always show
up as 2 cpus. Generally bios come with flash utilities.
