SyncToy v1.4 for Vista Released

Can you also make V1.2 also available for download - since it is compatible
with XP and does not require .Net Framework to be installed

thanks

SyncToy v1.4 shipped today and you can download the new bits at the link
below:
· Vista Compatibility

I guess it should say "Vista x86 compatibility". I've just tried it with
Vista RTM x64 and it does not work.
-- Stefano

Is it not in MS guideline that if you say that if software is for Vista it
must support x64 bit?

1.4 is not compatible, through there are some elusive fixes people in other
threads have come up with. Search more on synctoy vista or custsat.dll.

I hate the ambiguity of xp and vista compatible, why don't the programmers
make a distinction for 32 and 64?

:

Hallelujah! A replacement for the useless, shameful, appalling, retrograde,
utterly diabolically re-implemented Vista Briefcase!

Just got it, and whatever faults it might turn out to have, it can't be
worse than that - and so far it looks sooooo nice! (Any chance of initiating
an auto-sync on e.g. USB Safe Remove??? he asked cheekily...)

In sheer gratitude, I shall grant Three Wishes to whoever is responsible for
SyncToy :) [but the Curse remains on the Briefcase developers - if they were
hoping to work off any bad karma in this life, they blew it]

Amazing... my Irony Resource Meter has bottomed out and the Daily
Satisfaction Indicator is red-lining! If I grin any more, the top of my head
will fall off.

Can you describe your auto-sync wishes in more detail? :-) We're currently
evaluating the feature set for the next upcoming release and although I can't
make any promises, you might get some of what you want.

BTW, on the Vista x64 thing, sorry about the confusion - we have fixed it
for the next release.

Thanks

Of course!

a/ Initiate specified action on "Safe Removal" of USB device if either half
of a sync pair resides on the mounted device... prompt with e.g. "A SyncToy
Action has been applied to a folder on this device... do you wish to sync
before removal" and don't allow safe removal until Sync Toy's finished if the
answer is "Yes"
b/ Provide -P"syncname" cmd line option to run Preview rather than run (I
accidentally edited the wrong end of a pair and nearly overwrote it...)
c/ Remember window settings - I like to see the file names and set window
and column widths appropriately, but would prefer not to do it every time
d/ Does it save a log of actions taken - if not, might be nice. Oh! It
already does:)
e/ Allow order of syncs to be specified (one could then e.g. propagate by
echo to a master backup and then sync two backups)
f/ Er... nothing else I can think of!

Thanks! Keep up the EXCELLENT work!

I hope this means that a new release which works on Vista x64 will be
available soon! My first experience of SyncToy was less than useful. Would
you like a beta tester for the next version?

We haven't worked out the final date for the next release but we're actively
working on getting it out. It will fix the x64 issue.

Please fix the bug in 1.4 where it ignores subfolder exclusions and copies
them anyway. This problem has been around on this forum for 2 years...

Yep, that will be fixed in the next release.

Great! Here's another:

when selecting/deselecting subfolders in the tree for exclusion, please can
you fix it so that when a folder is checked/unchecked, all its subordinate
folders are automatically checked/unchecked along with it. At the moment you
have to check/uncheck every single subfolder beneath it as well, at every
level, otherwise they will not be excluded. This very nearly drove me
insane...!
Surely this is standard logic for this kind of tree? Otherwise, why have
tick boxes at the higher levels?

Many thanks

P.S. This is the case on XP also

To select or deselect all folders in a tree, right-click the top of the tree.
There you are given an option to select the whole tree or deselect the whole
tree.
