i'm wondering if i need to install synctoy on all computers i'm wanting to
sync with. I have a laptop and a desk top that i would like to keep in sync.
Should synctoy be installed on both machines?

Thanks in advance,

No, if you're going to sync a folder on each of two machines, it only needs
to be on the one that you're going to do it from. You can do the
scheduling on that computer also and as long as it has access to the other
computer, you're good to go.

I should have said that i'm using a thumb drive for the sync folders, does
this make a difference?

No, that shouldn't make any difference. Just treat it like another drive.
It'll need to have the same drive letter all the time though.

Thanks Dave,
i do have a problem. One drive is D the other is F, mabye i can rename D to
F on the laptop.

Anyway i'll give it a try,

Thanks again,

Chas D

No, that should be ok. It doesn't have to be the same drive letter on the
two computers. It just has to stay the same on each end (always D: on one
end and always F: on the other). When you set up the folder pair in
SyncToy you can tell it to sync D:\xxxxx on one computer with F:\yyyyy on
the other computer.

Ok, thanks a lot!!

OK, not directly photo-related, but I do use Synctoy for my digital
image folders.

Can Synctoy be used to synchronize Outlook data (not email messages,
but calendar, tasks, and notes) between my desktop and notebook PC?

I have been using an online solution, Plaxo, but I really don't like
having to rely on their servers.

Thanks!

SyncToy can't do this very well. Outlook stores all this data in a PST file,
buried deep within Documents and Settings. It’s all in one huge file – there
aren’t separate files for calendar entries, tasks, contacts, and so forth.
SyncToy could move the whole file from one machine to another like any other
file, but that may not be what you want, and it could take a very long time
depending on how extensive the file is. Further, the destination file might
be open if you have Outlook open on the other computer, and so the copy would
not succeed.

No it'd sync the two pst files but that doesn't accomplish what you want to
do. I've been trialing a program called EZOutlookSync Pro. It will sync
mail contacts, calendar tasks etc. I'm considering it to sync Outlook 2003
between my desktop and laptop but it isn't free ($59.95).
