SyncToy Runs, No UI

I downloaded and installed SyncToy twice after the UI never appears when
running the app.

I verified that the program is running as it appears in the running
processes in Task Manager, using up over 21000K of memory.

Anyone else run into this problem and is there a solution?

Hi LandOfToz -

I see that the SyncToy executable appears in the Task Manager. Can you see
the app in your TaskBar down at the bottom of your screen? This is something
that I have yet to see.

Thanks,

No, it's not. It appears under the processes tab but not the applications
tab so you can't even try to switch to it.

The only thing that I did notice was that my machine did not meet the 1GHz
minimum requirements, but I really don't think that would prevent it from
showing the user interface. If anything, it shouldn't run at all.

LandOfToz,

We have seen one other person mention this behavior but, until this week, we
had never seen it ourselves. This week, I was running SyncToy at home on XP
SP2 Home, and I saw the "task manager only" behavior.

In fact, I was even able to start up multple copies of SyncToy, none of
which produced any UI. Since I know that the first thing we do when we start
SyncToy is check for another copy of SyncToy running, and since I'd never
seen this behavior before, I dug a little deeper.

It turned out that, if I left the system alone long enough, like 10 minutes,
SyncToy eventually produced a UI.

It also turned out that SyncToy wasn't the only software behaving badly on
my system. XP was taking forever to load, and several other applications were
"stalling" or taking a long time to load.

A little more digging pointed to the registry. To make a long story a little
shorter, after I installed a 3rd party registry recovery package (Registry
Mechanic), I discovered 499 broken entries in the registry. After repairing
those entries, my system booted faster, and SyncToy went back to performing
flawlessly.

I hope this helps...

Thanks for the heads-up George. I will attempt to diagnose the registry for
any problems and repair if necessary. I'll post back with my results.

Thanks,
Joe
