Hello Microsoft
Unfortunaly using our Feedback Site at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=50942 does not allow longer comments.
I get a "*Required *Missing String: MaxLengthError from Package: Extra
Wizard Strings
"
if i want to enter more than 502 characters. So hopefully you will read it
here.
I was using tools like FileSync (www.fileware.co.uk in the past to compare
files and directories but was always looking for a better "real" sync tool.
and found one some month ago. But i still tried synctoy and it looks easy
and promises a sync. but does not do it perfectly.
Try the following: Create two folders:
C:\temp\folder1
C:\temp\folder2
add a file (C:\temp\folder1\test1.txt) with some content
Now sync and everthing is fine. Now modify both sides and sync again. Hmm no
warning, nothing, simlpy the newer one wins. thats not what i like.
Next step.
both directories are in sync.
modify file1 and then delete it in the target and SYNC.
-> source is copied again.
No Warning so files may be duplicated or stay there even if no longer used.
Next test:
Create an empty directory in source and SYNC:
SyncToy does not create a empty directory in the target.
So i think there is still a lot of work to do. But here in our company we
have to ask the question "Make or buy". Why does Microsoft "make" such
programs instead of buying existing much more powerful programs ? have a
look at SyncBACK by www.2brightsparks.com and you can see, what i mean (I'm
not affiliated with them, only a registered user)
So it's nice, that even microsoft build nice tools to replace the
"Briefcase" and robocopy /MIRROR but SyncToy is still far away from being a
professional application.
