Hello Microsoft
Unfortunaly using our Feedback Site at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=50942 does not allow longer comments.
I get a "*Required *Missing String: MaxLengthError from Package: Extra
Wizard Strings
"

if i want to enter more than 502 characters. So hopefully you will read it
here.

I was using tools like FileSync (www.fileware.co.uk in the past to compare
files and directories but was always looking for a better "real" sync tool.
and found one some month ago. But i still tried synctoy and it looks easy
and promises a sync. but does not do it perfectly.

Try the following: Create two folders:
C:\temp\folder1
C:\temp\folder2

add a file (C:\temp\folder1\test1.txt) with some content

Now sync and everthing is fine. Now modify both sides and sync again. Hmm no
warning, nothing, simlpy the newer one wins. thats not what i like.

Next step.
both directories are in sync.
modify file1 and then delete it in the target and SYNC.
-> source is copied again.
No Warning so files may be duplicated or stay there even if no longer used.

Next test:
Create an empty directory in source and SYNC:
SyncToy does not create a empty directory in the target.

So i think there is still a lot of work to do. But here in our company we
have to ask the question "Make or buy". Why does Microsoft "make" such
programs instead of buying existing much more powerful programs ? have a
look at SyncBACK by www.2brightsparks.com and you can see, what i mean (I'm
not affiliated with them, only a registered user)

So it's nice, that even microsoft build nice tools to replace the
"Briefcase" and robocopy /MIRROR but SyncToy is still far away from being a
professional application.

Follow Up.

Please move the "SyncToyData"-Directory with the database and profiles away
from my default document directory (In german itÄ's called "eigene Dateien".
maybe english is something like "my documents".
Please use the application data subdirectory in the profile.

Thanks for the feedback Frank,

The empty directory behavior is by design, but lots of people have mentioned
it, so we'll keep it in mind for future releases.

As for the overwriting, we think SyncToy's PREVIEW feature is one of its
most important features. It's in the preview that you can see when files will
be overwritten in time to prevent the overwrite.

I hope this helps...

Hello!

I also want the development team to move the "SyncToyData" folder away from
"My Documents." Why do I have to replicate .bin files when I back up "My
Documents!"

I agree! I'd like to be able to have the Sync Toy data location be user
defined on install -- if you do many syncs, your profile grows by leaps and
bounds. I try to keep my profile as small as possible, and it's now at over
200 M, with 160 of that being Sync Toy.

Agreed! If I could relocate the SyncToyData file to a shared location, then
I could have multiple users run the same Folder Pair jobs.

Dear Microsoft,

SyncToy is quite a nice tool, though with some imperfections. The
folder-selection being one of the worst. I have to sync a drive with a few
subdirs, with at their turn have some hundreds to thousands of subdirs and
files. If I deselect one of the higher-level dirs, the subdirs still get
copied. I would have to disable them all by hand. Could you make an option to
deselect all the subdirs at once? And, by the same basic principle, enable
them?

Cheers and thanks in advance!

I'm using v.1.2 to sync my Desktop and my LAptop through the same USBkey, and
back & forth both directions, for MY documents folder, with no exceptions
neither exclusions
I fnd Synctoy 's not really trustable as sometime synchronize the complete
Laptop folder instead of some of the really newer files. Behavior that is
unpredictable.

Also the option "-R" doesn't work for me in any way: upper or lower caser,
inside or out the double quote.. etc.. and I've only one folders pair.

tnx @ all
