SyncToy 1.4 Deleting Files

Just wondering if anyone else is facing this situation - we're using SyncToy
1.4 on a Windows XP Professional box. We have a folder pair setup to
Synchronize between local folder and folder on network. On first sync, it
pulls down file from network. On next sync, it deletes file from network!
Is this a bug with the product or do I have something incorrectly configured?

Thanks,

likely to be something misconfigured.

firstly, a sync log is created on both
sides and updated accordingly. The log
is "required" by the toy so that is knows
what it has done on both sides. There is
a possibility that without the log, it may
cause an issue.

Also, if you are using the toy
on both machines you have to take
care of the direction. On your laptop
you may have sync set as from laptop to the
network when you use the toy from the laptop.
However, on the network you
should sync from the laptop
to the network, if you will use the toy
on the network side.

the other thing that should be done is
basic preparation in case of a failure.

on the network side you should create
a folder like, laptop files. Then sync your
laptop to or from this folder.

your laptop from or to this folder.

by having two pairs of folders and
keeping them separated, you will
likely eliminate that chance that
documents on both sides will be deleted
inadvertently, whether by the toy,
yourself or hardware issue.
