Linda

It used to be, I could left click and choose to download later, then when I
was ready...go to tools, syncranize newsgroup.
Now, I don't have the option to select all I want to download later. When I
try this anymore....they will each download on their own.
Any ideas how I can get it to work like it used to? Thanks in advance!

Perhaps this is what you are looking for? Right click on each individual
newgroups to designate what you want downloaded. If you select "download
headers only" that's what you'll get. From there, you can review the
headers for the messages and decide whether or not to mark them for
retrieval.

Sharon, thank you. I've tried clicking on them all, and no matter....they go
ahead and download before I ask for them. Is there anything else I can try?
Thank you for your time and help.

Linda, you have to be very careful to not left click on the newsgroup
while doing this or it will start downloading whatever is currently
configured for that group. Right click only on the group name. Select
Synchronize and then your choice.

Another way to do this is to click on the news server name (example:
msnews.microsoft.com) in the left hand column. The right hand side of
the OE window will show the list of subscribed groups. You can use this
area to configure each group. You'll see a Settings to select *what* you
want to download and a "Synchronize Account" button to update a selected
group manually.

May want to go into Tools> Options> Read> News and set the maximum
number of headers. Around 100-300 is usually good for the XP groups. You
can always click on Tools> Get next <x number> of headers if the Status
Bar is saying there's messages you haven't read yet.

Also take a look at OE Help and the top "Catch Up." There really is no
reason to download 200,000+ headers for a large group unless you really,
really want to. Catch Up can help you to avoid this.

Finally, suggest a visit to the "Inside OE" site by Tom Koch:
http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com
It is a wealth of information for everything and anything about Outlook
Express.

Hope this helps,

Darn it! They just will not work like they used to. When I right click on
them to try and click on download later.....they go ahead and open. It's
very frustrating.

Linda, it sounds like you are past getting the gorups set up the way you
needed them and now want to mark messages for "download later"?

If yes, click File> Work Offline. This will not disconnect *your*
connection to the internet but it will temporarily disconnect Outlook
Express. Use Work Offline whenever you don't want Outlook Express
interacting with the news servers. Now when you click on a message
(right or left click) it will not download automatically.

After you have everything marked, then go back and uncheck Work Offline.
Then use Synchronize to download the messages that go with those marked
headers.

Bingo! That did it. Thank you so much. I really am sorry I bugged you so
much about this. But I have to tell you, I truly appreciate it. Thanks
again. Have a great weekend.
