I have received the following error when trying to sync
my outlook with our exchange server. Is there an
effective workaround?

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Outlook in offline mode, select some items that you no
longer need, permanently (shift + del) delete them, then
re-sync this folder.

Yes. Follow the instructions in the error message.

Hi Brian,

Thanks, but the instructions call for deleting files. In
this instance that really is not an option.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks
David

No it doesn't. It calls for deleting unneeded messages, not files.

If you wish to keep everything in your OST, then, instead of deleting the
messages, work off-line, open a new PST, and move items from your OST to the
PST. This will get them out of the OST and allow Outlook to synch with
Exchange just like deleting the messages would, as the error message states.

Brian,

Yes, you are right "messages" and "files" ... and your
suggestion is a good one. But with all good suggestions
ther of course is another question ... If I move the
messages over to a .pst file out of the .ost file, will
the syncing remove those messages from the Exchange
Server? And once removed, new inbound messengers would
have to be mannually moved into folder in a .pst file?

Thanks (again)
David

I'm not sure. Just a moment, let me try it... OK. I clicked File>Work
Offline, shut down Outlook, and restarted it. I then moved one of my older
messages from my Inbox (which is now the OST and not Exchange, since I'm
working offline) to a PST. I then unchecked File>Work Offline, was prompted
for my Exchange credentials, and when the synch was complete, the message I
moved was not reinserted into my Inbox, but was removed from Exchange.

Depends. Absent any rules to move messages automatically, yes. You can
make rules, however, to move messages to a PST.
