How do I synchronize Desktop and Mobile Apps.
I know I can just call Web Services and thats the easyest, but If the User
dosent have IIS what do I do?

Thanks

I think this is a FAQ.
There are a number of ways to do it.
Web services is one way but not the only way, nor necessarily the easiest
way.

For example, I use activesync file synchronization. When I have an updated
bit of data, I drop it into the "briefcase dir" for activesync, and the next
time the device connects to the desktop, AS handles the synch of the file.
Likewise in the other direction . this works for data that changes rarely.
And requires little in the way of app code - just drop the file in a
rendesvous directory, and let activesync do the rest for you....

Frequently asked maybe (I have myself). Answered in its entirety, not
so often. If you remove IIS because not everyone has it and remove
Active Sync because it is flakey and not everyone wants to use it,
what's left? Also barring bluetooth and wireless for the same resons as
IIS.
Is there no alternative for cradle based communications?

How about IrDa / CF NIC?

Or even you can store data files in Memory Card
with a folder already set as BriefCase in PC, aftern you
done data collecting or modifing, you can connect Memory Card
with your PC by Card Reader, and sync the data back to PC.

Life will find its way out, also the data... ;p

My point is that there doesn't seem to be a method that does not require
additional cost - you still need to buy the CF card or the card reader.
IrDa would require a tranciver for the host - laptops have them inbuild,
but desktops don't.

Coms via cradle only is the challenge..
