Every time I start MS Outlook 2003 it tries to synchronise folders, as I get
the wee icon in my system tray. How can I stop this? And why does it do it
every time I use Outlook? Surely, it should only do it occassionaly?
Is it slowing down my sending and receiving emails?

Regards
Brendon

What kind of service do you use? POP3, IMAP, Exchange, HTTP?

It does; Exchange is a direct read from the Exchange database. But using
Exchange cached or for Off-line use involves writing to your local HD as
well. Some other stuff too but no need to go into that.

The synch at startup is normal as it immidiately check for new messages.
Every now and then Outlook looks for new messages on the server. You can
configure this interval in Tools-> Options-> tab Mail Setup-> button
Send/Receive.

So it doesn't slow down your sending/receiving as it IS your
sending/receiving ;-)

Righto, I think I have it now, when it says "synchronising folders", it is
checking for mail? No problems then, cheers for the help.
