Sync Toy 1.2 - How to specify USB storage?

I use several different USB sticks for differenct purposes (college, work,
etc). I originally setup SyncToy with each of these 1 at a time, so each one
was D: drive on my laptop for that first sync. Now if it is the 2nd or 3rd
USB stick plugged in, it gets E: or F: and I have to unplug everything to
start again, or setup a new folder pair from scratch.

Is there a way for SyncToy to find the correct USB storage device based on
the file "SyncToyDirectoryId.txt" it leaves in the folder, or do I have to
set up a different folder pair for each possible drive letter my laptop can
assign?

I don't want to use the Disk Management Service to force each USB device to
use the same drive letter each time (even if earlier letters are vacant), as
this would cause conflict with other computers which I plug the USB sticks
into.

Thanks Henry, but I really don't want to have an extra program running in the
background in the hope of being able to sync correctly. I installed a trial
version and found that it used around 5-10% cpu constantly, and asked to be
re-installed twice in the space of 6 hours. Also it refused to sync anything
deeper than 6 folders. Perahps these are trial version limitations, but I
don't feel like it is superior to SyncToy in any meaningful way. (As a side
note, from which crossword dictionary did these guys learn English?)

I'm really after a way to specify USB devices uniquely as part of a UNC path
which is already supported by SyncToy. In the same way that Windows will
boot from "multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)" rather than "C:\", and URLs
can be "200.150.100.50" instead of "www.somewherewithareallylongname.com" -
I want to be capable of specifying the USB key with something like the
deviceID (STORAGE\REMOVABLEMEDIA\8&323004EB&0&RM) or something that won't
change when Windows assigns a different drive letter.

You can get control over USB drive letter by means of my
USB drive letter manager:

Or change the letter manually by means of my commandline
tool ReMount:
http://www.uwe-sieber.de/files/remount.zip
Sample:
remount f: u:

Or put an batch file on the drive with
subst u: \

This would create a subst drive U: that leads to the drive
no matter which letter it has.

Thanks Henry! These are exactly the kind of tools and hints I was after.
Once I get used to it, I'll try mapping the drive to a drive:\folder instead
of just the drive. The problem I keep encountering at college and work is
that (between the two of them) there are only a couple of drive letters
available - both have multiple network drives mapped to various letters.
