Sync files on network

I would like to sync some of my files between my desktop and notebook
so they both are up to date. I've experimented with "Briefcase" but
it's time consuming and there are too many files to make it worth my
time. I downloaded one of those sync programs. Problem here, as I'm
sure you're aware is, I can set the files to be synced on my desktop
(program installed on desktop) but can only see the shared folders on
the notebook. It does have a provision for User/Password but I can
still only see the shared folders. Is there a way to see my Programs
folder without "sharing" it?

I'm such an idiot... well, uninformed anyway. I was having trouble
syncing with a folder on my notebook because....
1).. I wasn't able to share my Programs folder (as should be) so I
reluctantly shared my whole drive...
2).. that still wouldn't let me see folders inside the Programs
folder...
3).. I used my brain and tried sharing the actual folder inside
Programs... viola... so I no longer have my entire drive shared, just
the folder I wanted in the first place and everything is working just
fine. I am using my "Handy Backup 4.0" program I've had for years and
didn't even know it has a sync utility
