Since my most recent Norton live update, two new processes -
symlcsvc.exe and usrprmpt.exe - run at startup.

What exactly do these do?

NAV ran fine without them, so what is their added functionality?

Most important, what happens if I turn them off?

As if I didn't already have enough crap running in the background!

ouch!

I have those also and I sent an email to Symantec.
If I get a decent response, I will post back.
They only seem to run at certain times.
They almost sound like they could stand for 'Symantec Lucom Service
and UserPrompt', whatever those could be.

Neither of those files show up when I do a Find on my Win98SE even
though they show up in the Close Program box at times.
I am using NSW2003pro which will no longer be 'email and tech'
supported after 8Sep04 according to the Symantec site.
Updates will still be available, though.

As I said in my earlier reply, here is part of the answer I received
from Symantec.
I am using NSW2003pro.

"mentioned files are the startup files for Norton programs. Symlcsvc
stands for Symantec Core LC Service and UsrPrmpt.exe stands for User
Prompt. It is necessary that you should have Symlcsvc enabled at
startup. However, you can disable UsrPrmpt.exe at startup."

That is all I have.
I only notice those two programs running at different times. How about
you?
