can someone shortcut me to a document that succintly and accurately defines
and describes Symbolic Links in the NTFS/Vista context.

One description I read called them rebranded "hardlinks", the only
difference being that they can span volumes - some difference

Another description I read give the impression that they're an
implementation (rebranding) of those .lnk files that we've all come to love,
hate or tolerate depending on one's perception of reality.

I need info for a document I'm writing

As I read this stuff, much of it a bit long in tooth, an ntfs symlink is a
junction except it applies to a file, it's like a junction cos its symbolic
and it's transparent.

btw - wot do i call a folder full of junctions - an interchange

cheers
