I have a HP computer running XP home.
I have a Math application that displays equations when using HELP.

Problem - The displayed equations have blanks instead of brackets, =
signs, < and > signs, Etc. I tried printing using my HP printer and
the printed pages are perfect. It looks to me as if the application
is looking for a symbol font that is available to the printer, but is
not in the regular windows font file.

Any ideas ?

Thanks, Daven

Ask HP or rtpm Read the printed manual

Hi Jim

There is no printed manual for the application. The HELP file is very
extensive and it IS the manual. As far as the HP puter is concerned,
there is nothing in the written manual addressing symbol fonts - or
the lack thereof. I can,and probably will, contact HP - but my
previous experience has not been too good when doing that.

Daven, check the Character Map. It depends which font you are using whether th
special symbols are available for use. Check the font that your Math applicatio
uses and then correspond it in the Character Map

Hi Byte,

The text looks like Times new Roman. The Character map for
New Roman includes most of the missing characters. However, the text
includes "two story" brackets that are tall enough to go around a two
line fraction. The map doesn't seem to include these. The
"application", a statistical calculator, has only a choice of size for
the font. Changing that does not change the equation size. It
appears that a different font was used for the math. Everything
appears as it should when printed including all missing characters.

Thanks !

XP has approx 240 Fonts. If what you need is not covered and you did not
locate the symbols in the Character Map, I would suggest you contact the
program author for help. You may have a free application which is
limited in hope of selling you the upgraded version.

Daven;

Interesting. I have *no* interest in statistics.
What are the odds of that? :o)

Hi gene,

Good suggestrions but - - -

No, the application is the real (and only) thing. I also did contact
the auther - what he said was " you are missing symbol fonts" :/

Since everything does show up as it should when I print, the right
font is floating about somewhere, but neither I nor the application
can find it.

I have a feeling that this has to do with the fact that this is an HP
puter and that they have fiddled with the OS.

Thanks for your efforts, I appreciate it.

The problem is solved. Initially, after downloadiong the program, I
clicked on the "start application" choice that was on the last screen
shown during installation.

Eventually, I realized that I had not re-booted.. That fixed the
problem.

My thanks to the responders and my regrets for the wild goose chase.

Daven;

It just shows to go ya, "There's always something." :o)
Glad it worked out.
I've chased after plenty of wild geese. ;o)
