An acquaintance calls me around midnight, "I think I caught a virus and it
ate my hard disk." She said she got two e-mails in Yahoo mail. One said
something like "you need to install this security update" and ran it. She
rebooted afterward, and now her computer tells her it can't find an operating
system.
The point is that Symantec, who drives the mail scanning at Yahoo, clearly
missed this one. In fact, she later used another computer and forwarded the
same mail to my Yahoo account, and I was able to "scan and download" it
straight away. That was this morning about 1 am EST, so Symantec might pick
it up by now.
The Mac's ClamXav detected it, however, as something called Worm.Stration.WG.
Is this a very new one?
