Hello,

I have 5 workstations running Windows XP/2000 and use ACCPAC (DOS
based) to do their accounts. There is a "main" workstation with the
same OS which is connected to a parallel printer (dot matrix), this
printer is the shared and the other workstations print to this
printer.

The specifications of the machines range from 1 GHz - 3 GHz and RAM
sits in at 256MB - 1GB.

Before Symantec AV was installed if one of the workstations sent a
document to be printed to the main workstation it would take about 1-2
seconds then it would spool and print, however after Symantec AV was
installed on all the workstations it now takes 30-40 seconds to send
the document to the printer.

I have removed Symantec AV from the "main" workstation but this still
happens now, is there any way to rectify this problem?!

Thanks,
Ashish

You only THINK you removed Norton. Did you use the Norton Sooper-Sekret
removal tool? Did you scan the directory for "Norton" or "Symantec"? Did you
remove the Symantec folders?

Norton is the termite colony of the software world.

HeyBub,

Norton are Home Products & Symantec are Enterprise usually

If you search the KBase at Symantec you will find a document that shows you how
to manually remove the Corporate versions

So, disable NETWORK Scanning make sure that you disabled scanning of the
specified file extensions/folders that Symantec suggests...

I've removed 10.2 (actually shows 10.1.5.xxx) on all systems because of
performance issues on servers. Try 10.0.xxx and see if that fixes your
problem if the first solution doesn't work.

Leythos,

When sending a document to print what files are being scanned by autoprotect at
that precise moment?

Version 10.2 of SAVCE was built for Vista

If you have 10.1.5.5000 then go to the Symantec site
(http://www.symantec.com/enterprise/support/downloads.jsp?pid=51852) & download
the patch to update it to 10.1.5.5010, but Symantec have agreed there is a bug
in this version because when shutting down you may get a rtvscan.exe
unreferenced memory error. That is due to the virus scanner is scanning the
profile on shutdown which could lock the profile so when you boot up again you
create a new profile. Symantec have been looking into this now since April 2007
but say upgrade to 10.1.6.6000 with upgrade patch to 10.1.6.6010
