sychost.exe - Application Error
The instruction at "0x5afcdaf7" referenced memory
at "0x04bf8cc4". The memory could not be written.

This popup has come up and will not close.
What is the problem and how do I fix it, it's way beyond
me. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

The reference Butch gave might help.

But take another look at that error message. The name of the file is
probably svchost.exe - the second letter is a V, not a Y. That's short for
Services Host, or something like that. Lots of services use this file.

Google shows over 150,000 hits for svchost, including 104 at the
support.microsoft.com site. This one might be a good place to start:
