I currently have Windows XP Pro on a new computer that is registered to
another computer. It is a temporary solution, since I am getting a different
copy of Windows XP for the new computer. I was wondering, how do I do it, and
what are the consequences to the Hard Drive?

You can install new xp cd,boot to xp cd (set for this in BIOS if needed-boot
priority device,or similiar),at xp cd boot menu,select install xp.From
here,you
can select "repair this copy" all updates are lost but everything else stays
intact, you'll be able to enter new product key from xp cd folder.

Is the current copy activated?
If not you can purchase the exact same type, click for activation, click
telephone, click on the button that says change product key. Change the key,
click apply. then cancel out and activate over the internet.

If the copy is already activated you will need to delete wpa.dbl.and wpa.bak
from the windows\system32 folder, reboot the pc,and follow the steps listed
above.
This will only work with the exact same SKU--you can't switch the keys from
different SKUs. If the SKUs don't match you will need to perform a repair
install.

there will be no conseqences to the hard drive.although your hard drive will
always store a very small ammount of the pro wich will not effect your new xp
installation.when you buy the new xp disk it will come with instructions.when
you first turn on your pc when the black screen comes up keep pressing the
del button till your bios shows up,go to boot and put cd rom as first boot
device the save and exict, once you logged in2 your pc put new xp disks in as
stated in booklet and just follow the on screan instructions, you cannot fail,
