I am unable to figure out how to keep the Internet
connection going after switching users, it just
dissappears. I have read almost everything in the
Microsoft database including the fast switching and all
related stuff. I have Windows XP home. I have also tried
setting everyone to admin users and then trying limited
again. I have all the latest updates from Microsoft and
have also ran a recovery due to other problems but the
same problem re-occurred.

I would be most grateful for some helpful advise

Dial-up connections might terminate while switching users, to prevent that

double click your internet connection on the desktop as if you are going to
connect (this only seems to work when you're offline) - check the box that
says something like - "for all users"

when you open your internet connection 'before' you connect - check the box
that says ".. for all users on this computer"

When Fast User Switching is enabled, it's useful to keep one dial-up
Internet connection open. And if one connection is not kept open, during
Fast User Switching the guest account will not be able to access the
Internet using a dial-up connection. The following entry in the Registry
will stop the prompt that closes the connection when changing users under
Windows XP:

1. Click Start, click Run, and type Regedit.

2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon.

3. Right-click within the right pane, point to New, and then
click String Value.

4. Name the value KeepRasConnections.

5. Double-click KeepRasConnections, and set the value data to 1.

The Windows XP interface also provides an opportunity to set a permanent
Internet connection when Fast User Switching is enabled. The New Connection
Wizard provides a prompt for specifying connection availability. Choose
between Anyone's use or My use only. The default is Anyone's use, which
means the connection will stay open when you switch to another user. If you
choose My use only, the connection will drop when you switch users.

Fast User Switching is not available on computers that are members of a
network domain.

You may need to have an administrator account on your computer to make
changes to the registry. Incorrectly editing the registry may severely
damage your system. At the very least, you should back up any valued data on
the computer before making changes to the registry.

I'm not sure what you're talking about here! I have a broadband connection and have no idea where this box might be. Can you be more specific
