I think what you are trying to do is use the Fast User Switching screen.
What you want to do is the following:
Start - Run - nusrmgr.cpl
Click on "Change the way users logon and logoff"
Make sure the box is checked for "Use the Welcome screen" and "Use Fast User
Switching"
After this, you will be able to swtich users without logging the user off.
Hope this helps.
Thanks.

I have not, to date, been given an answer to the question "as XP is the GUI
to end all GUIs, why, do all the MS people give command-line answers to
problems? Are you all secret Linux users?
It's not that we are secret linux users. I just give the shortest path
possible so that users don't get lost along the way. However, it is a good
point for me to take away that users may want to know how to navigate there
through the GUI to get to the CPL that I told them to launch.
Thanks for your input!
