Hello

I re-installed my windows but now the old Administrator user isn't working
anymore and my desktop is all empty for files. If I look under "documents and
settings" on my har ddrive I can see theres is a folder called
"Administrator" where all my old files are. How do I re-activate this accont
so that my desktop is turned back to normal? When I try "log off, switch
user" there is only the new, useless one. So how do I get back to my old
settings?

Please help :)

Create a second account with Admin priveleges. Test this.

Rename the existing Administrator account to something else, e.g. newadmin.

Rename or move the old Adminsitrator profile-folder. (the one containing
your wanted files) so there is no longer a folder called "Adminsitrator"
under "documents and settings"

Create a new Administrator account.

Log-on once as Administrator, then off and return to the newadmin account
you created. (This creates a profile-folder called 'Administrator')

Remove the blank Adminstrator profile-folder this creates, and replace it
with the original, good Administrator profile.

Log back on as Administrator, and you should have your original files and
settings.

BTW it isn't a good idea to work as Administrator all the time, so you might
want to revise this strategy anyway!

Thanks for the quick reply!

That was a nice and handy, do-it-yourself solution I'd say, so I'll give it
a try :)

But shouldn't there just be a way to activate old and "inactive" accounts?

After all I have re-installed windows about 3 times but this is the first
time this problem occurs!
