Using XP Moviemaker....I cannot switch desktops while capturing video. If I do...the capturing process is halted. I would like to hide the moviemaker application windows and do other tasks while video is being captured.

Capturing video takes an enormous amount of CPU power (resourcea). While
capture is taking place, try NOT to use the PC. Do NOT try to switch users,
run an query on an Access database, edit another video etc etc... Unless of
course you're running something like a P4 3.0Ghz CPU and 4gb of RAM in which
case you might have some CPU resources spare. Note the 'might'.

Just like when saving back to the camcorder..... MOVE AWAY FROM THE
COMPUTER... go make a cup of coffee, do the laundry, wash the car, clean the
floors, vaccuum the house etc etc. Give the PC a break... it's working hard
enough as it is!!!!!!

If I asked you to drive on the local freeway during rush hour while on your
cellphone, and then told you to check your makeup, hair, write your shopping
list for the week and check your email all at the same time, you'd probably
complain.... there's a limitation to what you can do while concentrating on
the road ahead (I hope!).... your computer works the same way. Let it
concentrate on what you have told it to do... in this case capture digital
video. The more resources it can allocate to the task, the less your
framerate drop will be and therefore the better the quality.

(Lecture on how to be nice to your PC over!)
