Switching off wireless signal?

I'm interested in buying a DLink wireless router and want to know if its
possible in general with wireless products, to switch off the wireless
signal when I'm not using it (but not unplug the power) and still connect to
the unit using wired ports?

I understand you can switch off external access through security, but I'm
interested in switching off the "physical" radio signal being emitted from
the unit. Is this possible with the following
http://www.dlink.com/products/?sec=0&pid=274 or indeed any brand of wireless
router?

Yes, most do allow you to turn the wireless off seperately.

Mine gets into one of the wireless link cameras
and I can turn it off in the router if that is a problem.

The manual is available on that page, I cant
see any obvious way to turn the wireless off.
or indeed any brand of wireless router?

Mine does, its a Billion, but its an adsl/modem/router so no use to you.

Yes. Absolutely.

I have one of those. You need to use your router's web interface. That is,
it's an admin function. It's bascially on the same page you use for
encryption settings, so chances are that you'll see it. Most people never
use that interface after initial setup, but there is a tab in the interface
for "wireless" and you can turn the wireless signal (I believe it's called
the "wireless radio") on and off.
