Switching off automatically

Having just successfully reinstalled Windows 2000 on my wife's PC, the
PC no longer switches off on shutdown but displays a
"...can now be switched off safely" message and waits for user interaction.

How can I reinstate automatic switch-off?
 
Did you load the motherboard drivers? Sounds like you didn't, and so you
aren't running ACPI PC, but Standard PC instead.

Thanks for your reply, but I'm not sure where to go from here :-\
