I'm switching from a GF4 to a Radeon 9800 and have heard about
the registry keys and other stuff that the Detonator drivers'
uninstall program still leaves behind, which may affect performance
with the Catalyst drivers. Is there a way to get rid of those
keys/files without doing a full reinstall of WinXP (just did it a
couple of months and in no rush to repeat the process)? The Detonator
Destroyer program that's been mentioned appears to work for Win9x/Me
but not XP. Any place where I can find the list of the keys/files so
they can be removed manually? Any suggestions would be greatly
appreciated. Thanks.

I just did this exact same thing a few days ago. All I did was booted into
safe mode. Uninstalled the drivers via the Add/Remove programs. Rebooted
into Safe Mode again.. At this point it wanted to reinstall the GeForce.
Once done, I didn't reboot. Instead, I went into the Device Manager and
remove the GeForce. Opened up Regedit. Deleted the following keys:
Hklm/Software/Nvidia and Hkcu/Software/Nvidia. Next, I did a search using
these parameters "nv*.*" (without quotes) BECAREFUL. ONLY REMOVE NVIDIA
FILES ONLY. IF IN DOUBT, CHECK FOR THE CORPORATION IN THE PROPERTIES. Then I
deleted all of the nv files in Windows/System, System32,
LastGoodConfiguration, and Backup directories. I turned off the computer,
yanked the GF3 and installed the 9800 Pro, and restarted normally. Cancel
the installation process. Run the Catalyst 3.7 install package from ATI's
website. Of course, if you don't have DX 9 installed, you should run that
before the driver installation.

Eveyrthing is fine. No issues whatsoever. If you ahve questions, then go

I used this: http://download.guru3d.com/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=603,
when doing the same thing.
