My C drive is limited to about 16gbs - whereas my D drive has 40gbs. How do
I make the D drive my primary drive. (I have Windows XP).

Couple of different ways:

1. Use imaging software like Acronis True Image to image your C:\ drive to
D:\. Remove the 16GB drive before you reboot after imaging and put the 40GB
drive in its place. Don't forget to change the jumper to make the drive
Master. After you've booted into Windows with just the one drive, you can
attach the 16GB drive as Slave and use Disk Management to format it for
storage if you like.

2. Back up your data and do a clean install of Windows after switching the
drives as in #1.

are you saying you have 2 hard drives, one 16gb and the other 40gb.
or 2 partitions on one hard drive , one 16gb and the other 40gb.

in either case sounds like you are short on disk space in general and could use a larger hard drive.

might consider purchasing 1 or 2 larger hard drives.
use the program from the manufacturer of the hard drives to ghost the old drive(s) to the new drive(s).

you do not mention the REAL sizes of the drives so the idea of moving the data around to make the "D" drive the new bootable does not make much sense.

you might perform some GOOD disk cleanup. move data from ":C" to "D" and remove some old restore points to make more room on "C".
