I switched from outlook to outlook express as my primary mail access, not
realizing it would go to my old e-mail address from South Carolina as a
default, and that I would lose all my messages in my outlokk inbox. I want
to switch back. How can I do this?

Switching from one to the other will not affect either's ability to continue
to operate as normal. You can use either or both to access the same or
different mail servers. In particular, using Outlook Express will not
remove anything from Outlook's Inbox. Also, the only reason Outlook Express
would attempt to use a prior mail address is if you still had that address
defined in a mail account in OE.

Brian,

Thanks for the info. I still don't know how to get rid of the old earthlink
account from South Carolina and get my outlook mail back on my page. Can you
help with that? I tried, but even though it allowed me to enter the
optonline.net info, it won't let me get to that e-mail.

In Outlook Express? See http://www.insideoe.com/ for comprehensive
information about OE.
and get my outlook mail back on my page.

I don't know what this means. Outlook mail doesn't come "on a page".
even though it allowed me to enter the
optonline.net info, it won't let me get to that e-mail.

Define "won't let me get". Do you get any error messages? If so, post
their EXACT text. How EXACTLY (excluding real usernames and passwords, of
course) have you tried to configure the account?

First, when I sign in, it comes up as popserver earthlink.net, which isn't
true, and I hit cancel until it goes away. Then I tried to remember how I
got my optonline.net account to be my e-mail primary when I first set up here
in July, and tried to do it again. I wound up in Import Mail Settings, and
just followed that. But it didn't change anything. Does that answer your
questions, or do you need more details?

I know you are trying to help me and I appreciate it, don't mean to sound
like I have an attitude, just am frustrated by this situation. Thanks, again.

What I meant was what are the account settings as described in Tools>E-mail
Accounts>Next page and on the More Setttings pages?

You don't sound like you have an attitude at all. (Maybe because I can't
hear you <grin>.)

Brian,

I have looked at the website for outlook express that you mentioned, and
also under tools in the accounts section of the menu, and I can't figure this
thing out. Can you give me a play by play of what I should see, or something
like that?

Thanks.

First, set up your account in OE with Tools>Accounts. Enter the values that
your ISP has given you. Remove any other accounts or uncheck the "Include
this account..." button for them. This should be all you need to do for OE.

Brian,
It looks like I figured it out, somehow, but as of this moment, all the
stuff I had in my account on my computer isn't there. Will it show up after
I restart?

Thanks. Cheryl

No. Now that Outlook Express has been set up, you must move the data from
Outlook to OE. To move your Contacts, in Outlook click File>Import and
Export>Export to a file. Choose "Comma Separated Values" (either "DOS" or
"Windows"). Select your COntacts folder and click Next. Specify the file
path and name and click Next., then Finish. Once you have generated that
file, open Outlook Express and click File>Import>Other Address Book, select
"Text File (Comma Separated Values)" and click Import. Browse to the file
you created in the previous step and click Next, then Finish.

To transfer your messages, in Outlook Express click FIle>Import>Messages,
select "Microsoft Outlook: and click Next. Select only the message folders,
like Inbox, Outbox, and so on, since OE doesn't know what to do with
Calendar, Tasks, Journal, Contacts, and the like, and click Next, then
Finish.

The problem is, I can't get into Outlook now. So I can't move my contacts.
And when I try to sign in to Outlook Express now, the following comes up:

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'mail.optonline.net',
Server: '127.0.0.1', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket
Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

So I guess I am still kind of unable to use my e-mail, or to get to any of
my old messages that were still in Outlook.

Thanks for continuing to try to help me.

What happens when you tried what I suggested?

This is caused by your antivirus scanner modifying your server values.
DIsable email scanning.
