And you should all do the same.. :-)

Waited a long time for a stable version. It's here and because I found a
theme that makes it look like classic Netscape / Mozilla : Perennial
(I'm conservative..)

Thunderbird? Maybe next time...

What is it, Firebird, Firefox or Mozilla; I also have something named
K-Meleon which is also of that family.

What's the real name and what's the latest version. Thanks.

Firebird = old name for Firefox
Firefox - latest version 1.0 PR - standalone browser
Mozilla Suite 1.7.3 - browser, email, news, composer, calendar, chat
Thunderbird 0.8 - standalone email/newsgroups reader

K-Meleon which is also of that family.

K-Meleon 0.8.2 - independent browser also based on the 'gecko' engine

Don't hold back from giving Thunderbird a go. At work, where I manage a
large co-op who communicate primarily by email, I clung desperately to
good old Eudora 3.1 well after it's use by date has expired.

At the beginning of this year, switched to Thunderbird and have never
looked back - and, I'm proud to say, have never in my life sent or
received an email with OE! ;)

As soon as hotmail stops supporting built-in hotmail support in OE I'll drop
it myself.

I think Thunderbird has potential, but it just doesn't hold a candle to
Pegasus Mail for me at this point.

If only T'bird would add the functionality to delete individual
received messages from the POP server, I would gladly also switch from
Eudora.

| Waited a long time for a stable version.
| ....

I first tried the FireXXXX browser
under Win98_SE at around the 0.6x release,
but found it a bit buggy at the time
and resorted to a stand-alone version
of *pure* Mozilla ....

However, now using Linux/Debian Sarge,
I've installed Firefox 0.9.3 and find
it very stable on the same machine,
albeit a different OS ....

The Moz version I use under Win98_SE
is over-due for an update, so in view
of the recent success with Firebird
under Linux, I will also try it under
Win98 before going the *pure* Moz route ....

I had a similar experience with an earlier
version Mozilla-Thunderbird, but the 0.8
version I have now under Debian/Sarge
works very well and probably would
be fairly easy for current OE users
to adapt to ....

Note that installing these Mozilla-Based programs
is VERY easy under Debian GNU/Linux
requiring ONLY 1 single line each
at a command-line prompt ....

# apt-get install mozilla-firebird

# apt-get install mozilla-thunderbird

That's it ....

o No looking for download sites ....
o No closing down everything first ....
o No un-zipping ....
o No compiling ....
o No muss .... no fuss ....
o No Re-Booting the system ....
o Just fire up the programs ....

The apt package management system
and its ease of use for installing/upgrading programs
was among the primary reasons for me to choose Debian GNU/Linux
as an alternate OS ....

| ....
| # apt-get install mozilla-firebird
|
| # apt-get install mozilla-thunderbird
| ....

Too many animals in the zoo ....

I now have ThunderBird and FireFox ....

# apt-get install mozilla-thunderbird

# apt-get install mozilla-firefox

Why? It's hypeware. There are much better freeware IE front-ends out there
with much better feature/function.

You've got to be kidding.... :-)

Have you tried any? I will name some if you want, and there are a lot to
choose from.

The tab support in Firefox sux, the plugins mostly don't work very well or
at all. Firefox lacks features like cleaning cache and cookies on exit,
etc. that almost all freeware IE front-ends provide. Firefox is piss slow
at loading. There are better choices, no question.
