Ok, so I just installed Vista Ultimate, and think it is great.
However, I have noticed a couple of times that when I do a Switch User from
time to time I get a Blue Screen and the system reboots automatically.

Has anybody had this before?

I do not have any non-microsoft products installed, one exception 'Skype
Beta 3' everything else I have installed is Microsoft (Office, Project,
Visio...)

Any help would be appreciated

Well, blue screens are almost always driver related. I'd suspect Skype but
it could be any hardware driver. If you note the stop codes in the blue
screen you may be able to google them and come up with a clue.

I do know that I can switch users on my Vista without any problem.

What a classic response.. lets make this guy an mvp

I would say the blue screens are windows related.. I have never seen a blue
screen on linux or macs.

I have seen many blue screens that are not driver related too....and I am
not taking about
win9x that the blue screen was so common you thought it was a screensaver of
some sort...

Tight click Computer in the Start menu and select Properties.
In the left section click "Advanced system settings".
Click Settings under Startup and recovery.
Uncheck "Automatically restart".
Next time you will be able to read the blue screen.

Frank,
thanks for the tip. I will try that, and then I hope I can see where
the problem is coming from. I would not be surprised if this were a driver
problem but let me investigate further and I will of course feed back to this
forum any answers I get.

Best regards,

Frank,
I made the settings as you suggested, however when the blue screen
came that is all it was 'a blue screen' no text no information as to what
caused the problem, nothing but blue....
I do have a memory.dmp file, but do not know how to view the contents and
try to decipher or at least narrow the search for the problem...

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi

I have the same issue, with Vista Ultimate RTM. Only happens occasionally
when changing back to the logon screen if I select 'switch user'. My system
has an ATI graphics card using their beta Vista drivers, I'm wondering
whether that is where the problem lies... I haven't really spent a huge
amount of time looking into this to be honest, but maybe I will now.

I have also found it on 2000, but is a registry issue, especially if you change users then restart or shut down the cpu. This also happens in Safe mode. It seems if you delete unneccessary registry keys in winlogon of regedit this should cure the problem

Thanks for the information, but no one knows to whom you are giving this
information since you are not posting on a real forum as you think you are
and you didn't quote any of the thread to which you are replying. You are
using a web interface that leeches Usenet posts and most of the rest of us
are using real newsreaders. We don't see what you do. If you want to
participate in Usenet, the better way is to set up a newsreader. This is
very easy to do and I'll give you information about that below. If you
prefer to use a forum, then here are two excellent ones:

Since you are using a web interface, you may not realize that this is really
a newsgroup. You will get far more out of this resource if you learn to use
a newsreader. There are many good newsreaders for Windows, but you can use
Outlook Express (XP) or Windows Mail (Vista) since you already have it.
