Hi all,
I have a win 2k pdc which is a file server.
I want to switch it to a dotnet server and looking for a way to transfer the
data with all the groups, AD etc..
without starting from zero.
Any ideas, tools?

Thanks,
Tom

Hello Tom,

Thanks for your post. As I understand, the problem you are facing is that
you want to transfer the AD, user groups from Win2K PDC to Windows Server
2003. Please correct me if there is any misunderstanding.

I suggest that you can use ADMT for the migration. Please refer to the
following KB article:

How to Use Active Directory Migration Tool Version 2 to Migrate from
Windows 2000 to Windows Server 2003
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=326480

Hope this helps.

Hi,
Thank you all for your help - thats great.
what do I do with the folders on the pdc which are the network drives for
the users?
How can I copy those folders without losing the permisions on them?

Thanks,
Tom

Hi Tom,

Thanks for your feedback. You can use the xcopy command or use Windows
Bacup/Restore Tool (ntbackup.exe) to copy the folders without losing the
permissions. I believe the following KB articles are helpful:

How to Copy Files and Maintain NTFS and Share Permissions
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=174273

How to Restore Share Definitions To Another Server
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;141589

Does this answer your questions?
