I beg your pardon if the question coulds appear silly:

If I barely switch-off (i.e. unplug the power cord ) an XPe based system,
what risk do I run ?
A very good HD that ensure the fastest head reposition in the safe location
could it be enough ?
Can the EWF filter improve the system reliability ?

Thanks!

Whether your image is likely to go belly-up is probably largely down to
what your image was *doing* at the time. We have a number of units in
the field that are, apparently, routinely hard shut down and there have
been no problems with those that I'm aware of, possibly because they're
shut down when they're not really doing anything.
EWF prevents writes to the drive and so prevents the corruption taht can
occur when the disk is being written to when a hard shut down occurs.

Thanks for the replies.
Apart the strong support given high-rel HW (including the Sean's
indication), the most critical point are the data structure that could
become corrupted. I have not a deep knwoledge of the NTFS but
http://www.ntfs.com/data-integrity.htm tranquilizes me about the disk data
structure corruption. The EWF enabled on the system disk (as you confirmed)
should ensure the next safe boot.

Integrity of user data partition of course is another matter.

Thanks!

EWF will help with protecting the drive. There are also some CF cards that
have power sensing technology that can detect when a system is going down:
