First off I am new to networking. I just bought a 5 port
10/ 100M switch and would like to network 2 computers
together (possible file sharing and printer sharing from
one room to another) and if possible, sharing my cable
connection without having to pay extra. One has XP Home
the other Win2000 ( does one of these O.S. need to be a
server?) I basically need help with getting the computers
to see each other. The XP is dynamically addressed/
Win2000 has no addy yet. Could anyone with some free time
help me out. Thanks for your time.

You can use either computer as an Internet Connection Sharing server
to make the cable connection available to the other one. The server
computer needs two network adapters: one for the cable connection, and
one for the local area network connection to the switch.

To make XP the server and 2000 the client:

Windows XP Internet Connection Sharing

To make 2000 the server and XP the client:

XP ICS - Client Setup Using the Network Setup Wizard
