I am thing of siting up a network in my home, but what is
the diff. between a Swich/Hub/Router?

hud is just a multiport connector
switch subdivides network logically
router connects disimmilar networks

hub:
Also called a repeater hub, the basic networking component used in traditional 10-Mbps Ethernet networks to connect network stations to form a local area network (LAN). Hubs can be used for:
Connecting about a dozen computers to form a workgroup or departmental LAN
Connecting other hubs in a cascaded star topology to form a larger LAN of up to roughly a hundred computers

switch:
Any device that can control the flow of electrical signals. A number of special-purpose switches are used in networking.
In the context of controlling data flow within a network, the term "switch" is also used to describe a data-link layer device that routes frames between connected networks. Data flow switches include:
Local area network (LAN) switches: Used to route Ethernet frames over a TCP/IP internetwork; also called Ethernet switches
Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) switches: Used to switch ATM cells at high speeds over an ATM network
In the context of high-speed Ethernet networks, the term "switch" usually refers to an Ethernet switch. Thus, the phrase "routers and switches" is understood to mean "routers and Ethernet switches."
The term "switch" can also refer to a device used at a telco central office (CO) for establishing connections in circuit-switched services or for forwarding packets in packet-switched services.

router:
A networking device that is used to extend or segment networks by forwarding packets from one logical network to another. Routers are most often used in large internetworks that use the TCP/IP protocol suite and for connecting TCP/IP hosts and local area networks (LANs) to the Internet using dedicated leased lines.

If you plan to connect to the 'net with a DSL or cable modem,
then I recommend a combination router+switch (very common and
pretty cheap), since that will allow a handful (typically four)
PCs to share and concurrently use the DSL/cable modem.

See http://home.comcast.net/~bobwbsgs/homenet.txt for details.
