Switch connection

Here's an odd problem -- any advice would be appreciated!

If I disconnect my Windows 2000 computer from the network switch in my
house, when I reconnect the cable, the 'link integrity' light on my
computer (which indicates when I have a connection to a hub/switch)
doesn't light up, and I cannot use the network. In order to get
networking up-and-running again I have to disable, and then re-enable
the local area connection in Windows in order for the link to be
reestablished. The same is not true when I disconnect and then
reconnect the same computer at work -- the link is reestablished
immediately in that case.

Where should I be looking for the cause of this issue -- any ideas?
I'm a bit new to this networking lark...

Thanks!
Stuart.

Probably time to read up on that particular model of the switch. You can
probably reboot to reconnect also. The switch may not be sensing a
connection. Have you tried a different port on the switch?

Hello,

Just out of curiosity, what make and model is this switch?

Thanks for the comments, folks (it's not especially convenient for me
to try a different port on the switch at the moment, but I might check
to see whether other people in the house experience the same issue).

It's actually just the very cheap (but otherwise fine) Ebuyer Extra
Value switch: quickfind code 55667 on www.ebuyer.com

It doesn't really cause a problem (perhaps this is common to many
cheap switches) but I was curious as to why it happened!

Thanks,
Stuart.
