Switch A & B drives

I have a standard floppy and also an LS-120 "Superdisk". On all the
units I have built to date the floppy is seen by the OS (now XP Pro)
as drive A: and the LS-120 as drive B:.

On my latest machine using an ASUS P4C800-E motherboard and a P4 3 Gig
processor the floppy shows up as B: and the LS-120 as A: I have
tried every thing to correct this "problem". Switched drives,
switched cables, changed all preferences in the BIOS to no avail. My
buddy has built the exact same unit and his system is reacting
normally with XP Pro showing the floppy as A: and the LS-120 as B:

Obviously, this is no real problem since I know which drive is which.
It is just one of these little quirks that is presenting a situation
that I would like to correct.

Is there any way from within XP, possibly the Registry, to change
letter designations of floppy drives. As you know, they do not show
up in Disk Management.

I've no answer, I'm afraid, but only a question...as the LS-120 can read
standard floppy disks, why would you still need a floppy drive?

Regards,

Pete.

Pete:

Excellent question. I can even boot from the LS-120 so I really do
not "need" the standard floppy. I really like the LS-120 and have
become quite dependent upon it for certain tasks. They are no longer
available (new) and I want to make mine last as long as possible.
Thus, I use the standard floppy when I can.

There are 2 separate items to check. First, Floppy Drive A is always
attached to the most distal ribbon connector, i.e., the one furthest
away from the motherboard. Second, Floppy Drive B is attached between
the split in the ribbon cable and the motherboard. Second, in bios
setup, Floppy Drive A, as it is the 1.44 MB FDD, is then setup as
such; Floppy Drive B, as the LS-120. Where problems arise is when
the physical positioning of the floppy drives do not allow them to
be attached in this specific way, i.e., the 1.44 MB FDD is situated
below the LS-120 instead of the other way around and the ribbon
cable cannot be twisted to accomodate.
