I'm using IE 7 and OE 7. Any email I get that has an .swf
attachment; the attachment won't open.

Can anyone help?

Thank you,

There is no such thing as OE7. A swf file is usually associated with Adobe
Flash Player, although some other programs will work.''

Save the attachment to your HDD. Right click on it and Open With | Choose
Program. Find and choose a program that works and then check the box: Always
use this program to open this kind of file. This should enable you to open
these attachments in the future.

I'm having the same problem but I don't think George has stated the
problem right. It is not an attachment that I am trying to open. It is
a link sent in an e-mail that end's in .swf that won't open in
"Internet Explorer" any help would be greatly appreciated. Here is an
example of a link that can not be opened....

Works for me. Do you have Adobe Flash Player installed?

The only programs that I have that might have a conflict opening a
.swf link would be "Ad-Aware" and "Big Fix" But I had these
programs on my computer before and the link's used to open!!!

It's possible one of these programs has a setting to block Flash
content. Or you might have a browser add-on that is interfering.

Or perhaps you do have Flash but not Shockwave. What happens when you
visit this site:

Well I didn't have the shockwave, so I installed It but to no avail!!
still
won't open the link

Thanks for trying Daave

Sometimes you need to close the browser, clear the cache, and open the
browser again.

If that doesn't work, I still think the top paragraph is applicable.

Now if I can only remember how to find my Internet Cache files
I'll be all set. Thanks for your help Daave!!!

In order for me to help you with emptying your Web browser cache, I
first need to know which Web browser is your default. :-)

FWIW, I use IE7, and this one method:

1. Make sure browser is closed.

2. Right-click the desktop shortcut for IE and select Properties. If
that doesn't work, do this:

Start | Control Panel | Internet Options (If you don't use Classic View,
you will need to select "Network and Internet Connections" first.)

3. Under Browsing history, click Delete. In next window, click Delete
all. In the final window, check the box and click Yes.

Note that emptying Temporary Internet Files is somehting you should
always be periodically doing! Depending on your usage, once or twice a
month may be adequate.

Once more, if the above method doesn't work, consider what I originally
wrote (which you snipped!):
It's possible one of these programs [Ad-Aware or Big Fix] has a
setting to
block Flash content. Or you might have a browser add-on that is
interfering.

Daave you have been a great help and I tried all your suggestions that
you listed above, Deleted Browsing History, Deleted all History,
Deleted all Tempory Internet Files. Did all this and still no luck,
still couldn't open a .swf link. Then I decided to delete my Ad-Aware
program in case that was causing the problem, No luck with that
either, then decided to delete the Big-Fix program still no Luck. By
the time I got done I couldn't even open a Youtube Video. So by now
as you can tell I was getting really upset, so as a last ditch effort
I decided to upgrade my "Internet Explorer 7" to "Internet Explorer
8" and *Whoop-De-Do* Everthing started working again!!!!!
So far it doesn't seem to be to bad of an updrade, maybe I should have
done that in the first place. I really appreciate all the help you
have been, and I guess you can add this to your bag of tricks if
anyone else has a problem. * If all else fails upgrade to E I
8"*.......Thanks a Million DCR804!!!!

I'm glad things are working for you. As a rule, upgrading to fix an
issue shouldn't be done. That is, the normal course of action is to
address and fix the issue and *then* upgrade. But I'm glad things are
working.

I guess my patience started to run a little thin,
so I decided to take the easy way out!!
Still I appreciated all the help and I'm sure
I'll be back again soon with another problem!!!!
Thanks again!!!
