I have a swen virus problem I think, but it's disabled the AV software so
how to fix it? Every time I try and load Norton, I just get an error
message.

I had this with a mate - the virus disconnected him from the internet every
time he tried to get to a symantec site. Cunning little beggar.

I just went round to a mate's, downloaded the removal tool to a floppy (at
last! a use for a floppy disk!), made it read only, walked back, and ran the
tool from his A: drive. All sorted.

Only other way would be for someone to e-mail him the tool; don't know if
that would work; but if you want it, dear boy, e-mail me back and I'll send
it to you as an attachment.

My sister downloaded swen to her laptop and now cannot get rid of it,
from talking to her over the phone she cannot access any swen av
fixes she downloaded, any program she tries to run comes up with a run
error, she cannot use regedit and now it has blocked her from the net
all together. To make it worse her laptop does not have a floppy
drive. Even in safe mode she cannot run any program's. Its got me stumped.
BTW it's winxp home she's running.

groups.google.com; over on microsoft.public.windowsxp.general someone
(Doug Knox maybe?) has a set of utilities with the names changed which
most of these viruses won't recognise and shut down. Useful things to
have around.

My sister downloaded swen to her laptop

....then compounded the error by running the file, then using
*something* - usually the culprit is an antivirus program - to delete
the installed worm's files without fixing the registry changes first.
That about sums it up.

Tell her to right-click on one of those "swen av fixes" and rename it
with the file extension CMD, then double-click on it to run it. I've
never tried this, but Norton seems to think it will work -
